Mrs. William N. Esselstyn an old and highly respected resident of this vicinity, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. J. L. Spaulding, south of the city, Wednesday morning aged seventy years, nine months, and eleven days.

The deceased whose maiden name was Annie J. Bemis was born in Painesville, Ohio, July 8, 1838. In the early part of the forties she came with her parents to Milford, this county, which remained their home for several years.

On September 3, 1859, she became the wife of William N. Esselstyn. Seven children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy, another son Charles L. passed away four years ago.

Mrs. Esselstyn had been in frail health for several years gradually growing weaker. For the past ten years she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. L. J. Spaulding, where she received every care and attention love could provide.

Funeral services will be held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. W. Mager of the Methodist church, after which the remains will be tenderly laid to rest in Lake View cemetery.

The deceased leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted mother, three daughters and one son; Mrs. R.T. Lathrop of Academy, SD; Mrs. L.D. Ryan of Chicago, IL; Mrs. L.J. Spaulding of Koshkonong and William Esselstyn of Walla Walla, WA; also thirteen grandchildren.

Mrs. Esselstyn was much beloved by a large circle of friends for her kindness of heart and friendly interest in the wellfare of others. She will be greatly missed by her children to whom she was ever a solicitous and devoted mother, and by many other relatives and friends who knew and loved her for her many sterling qualities.
