Gerald Allen "Jerry" Bentley, 68, of Urbana, passed away, Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, in Springfield Regional Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 16, 1945, in Warrensburg, Mo., the son of Alvie Allen and Ruth Irene (Lewis) Bentley.
Jerry was a graphic arts teacher at Urbana High School for 38 years where he also coached basketball, track and cross country. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, doing yard work, photography, antiquing and most of all, being Papi.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Dils) Bentley of Urbana; his daughter, Sara Marie Bentley of Hilliard; his grandson, Owen; brother, Barrie Bentley; brothers-in-law, David Jones and Richard Dils; sisters-in-law, Ann Bentley, Connie Jones and Martha Dils; mother-in-law, Anna Marie Dils; aunts, Jean Raabe and Barbara Dils; nieces and nephews, Angie, Robert, Amanda, Luke and Victoria Bowman, Carrie and Adam Reed, Nick Grugin, Emily, Gabby and Mikala Bentley, Rebecca, Allen and Kevin Boyd, Roselin Blaede and Dakota Storm; as well as numerous cousins and a host of friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Roger Glenn Dils.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Urbana with Rev. Scott J. Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana. The family will receive friends at the church after the committal service. Services are entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana.
