David Stapp fought in the Civil War. At the time of his death, he was serving as a Private in the Union Army in Company A of the 116th Regiment commanded by Capt. Brown of the Illinois Infantry. He died of Typhoid Fever after serving only three or four months.
According to his daughter, Mary Emily, his family watched him get on a boat and never saw him again.
