BOY DROWNS IN RIVER
Merrill Conn Falls from raft and loses life.
Merrill Conn, 7, son of Mr and Mrs J.W. Conn, 1224 Denver Ave was drowned in the river at the foot of Killingsworth Avenue yesterday. A boy named Campbell about the same age narrowly escaped drowning but saved himself by hanging to the piling on of a dock.
The boys were playing on a raft made of railroad ties. Young Conn slipped through the raft caught his companions leg and pulled Campbell into the water up to the waist. The lad clung on to the timbers until his companion let go.
Municipal Grappler Brady recovered the body at the spot pointed out by young Campbell. The boy said his mother had given them permission to go berry picking on the condition that they should not go near the river.
