She was the sixth child born to Ferol Vivian Mitchell and Milo D. Ellis Zimmerman. She was married to Ray Samuel Burch and they raised two children. Her siblings were: John, Velma Jane, Earl, Charles Wayne, Robert, Richard, and Doris. Betty's mother died in 1932 and she and her siblings were raised in foster homes until adulthood. She married Ray Burch on October 17, 1948 in Indianapolis. They lived in Danville, Indiana on Mackey Drive for all of their married life. Betty also worked at the nearby IGA in the 1960's and 1970's and was also a homemaker. She later lived in Avon and Brownsburg, Indiana.
