YOUNG WIFE AND MOTHER IS CALLED FROM A GARFIELD TOWNSHIP HOME--In the Death of Mrs. Nels Wika last Thursday, eight little children, bereft of Mother--A SAD THANKSGIVING-- Concourse of Sorrowing Relatives and Neighbors attend funeral at Clark Center on Sunday.
It was a sad Thanksgiving day spent by the Nels Wika family this year for it was on that day that the angel of death called at their home and took away the wife and mother. Lydia Marie Wee was a daughter of Ole M. and Mary Monson Wee, born at Etne, Norway on March 22nd, 1887 and grew to womanhood in her native country where she was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Deceased came to America in 1910 and on February 15,1912 was united in marriage with Nels Wika of Garfield township and they immediately took up housekeeping on a farm in that township where they have since resided until she passed away on November 25, at the age of 39 years, 8 months and 3 days.
Mrs. Wika leaves to mourn her untimely death a husband and eight young children who are Mildred, Orva, Normal, Morris, Nora, Emmet, Alvin and Orville, the latter an infant three weeks old. She is also survived by five brothers and one sister, Prof. M.O.Wee, St Paul, Minn, Rev. O.M.Wee, Lakefield, Minn, Rev. P.O. Wee, Dawson, Minn, B.O. Wee, of Minneapolis and Bernt Wee, of Long Beach, California. The sister is Mrs. L.J.Odland of Woonsocket, this state.
Deceased was a splendid wife and mother and an excellant neighbor as she was of a social nature and ever willing and ready to take her part in carrying out matters pertaining to the comfort and benefit of her friends and neighbors and she had enjoyed generally good health, with the result that the report of her death was a shock to the entire community in which she was so well and favorably known.
Funeral was held from the late home on Monday afternoon with services at the Clark Center Lutheran church at two o'clock conducted by the local pastor, Rev. A.E. Distad and Rev's L.K.Odland and O.M. Wee and same was attended by a concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, the church being packed to overflow, and the many floral offerings expressed the sympathy of the public. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the cemetery there.
