Janice Rosalie Reynolds was born outside of Red Elm, South Dakota on the Reynolds homestead as was her brother Robert Howard. The remaining brother, Richard Everette, was born in town at Dr. Creamer's local hospital (Dupree).
After starting high school, Janice went to live with her grandmother, Jennie Nutter, who lived on the edge of town, at Gibbon Nebraska. After high school, Janice attended Hastings College, at Hastings, Nebraska.
In about 1938, or 1939, she met Clyde Baker and married shortly thereafter.
Military and Travel:
Clyde Baker was in the Army Signal Corp, (Radio Operator) stationed at Alaska where Janice soon joined him about 1940. Their first child, Patricia (Anita?) was born there. From this point, Clyde transferred many places. The Bakers lived at Cordova, Seward, Yakutat, Adak, and Fairbanks Alaska. They also lived in Turkey for a while, after which, they returned to the states, (Ft. Lawton, WA., Sacramento, CA., and White Sands, N.M.)
Neighbors with Parents:
At one point, they lived in a little house across the side street from Janice's parents Maynard E. and Inez V. Reynolds, at Corvallis, Oregon.
Eventually, though, they settled at El Paso Texas where they raised their family.
At about 27 years old, Janice became ill with Multiple Scorsese (in Alaska), after which, her body slowly was ravaged by this dreadful disease until she finally lost her battle in 1966.
Janice, known as "Sis", by her family, was a dear, loving, nurturing soul. She was a wonderful mother and wife, this in spite of her personal struggle with her health. Her death was a devastating blow for her family, parents, and siblings. Janice Rosalie is to be greatly commended for her courage and fortitude.
The Baker children are Patty, Mark, Steve, and Cynthia.
