Birth: Mar. 27, 1871
Ostra Furtan
Värmlands län, Sweden
Death: Oct. 30, 1970
Buffalo County
Nebraska, USA

Jennie Nutter (some sources cite Jenny) was born in Varmland Sweden on March 27, 1871.

Her parents were Olof Reinholdson and Britta Jansdotter. As a young girl she lived with her grandmother in a picturesque little cottage in the forest where the snow would come up to the eves in the winter, later she lived with her father.

Jennie worked for various families as housekeeper/child care, later, to become an indentured servant, which was her ticket to America.

After arrival at New York she eventually found herself working at the remote location of Nebraska for the John Nutter family. Her life was filled with servitude up until John Nutter, who had recently been widowed, asked her to marry him (1893). She was already keeping his house and raising his children for him (said to numbered at 5).

Jennie and John were to have many children themselves. The Nutters lived a comfortable farm life on a large parcel in Hall County Nebraska. Nutter, being one of the oldest and most prominent pioneer families in the region.

John and Jennie Nutter had 2 dwellings, one, a large farmhouse on the edge of Gibbon, and two, a farm called the "island farm", but not at Grand Island. John would work the farm in the summers whilst Jennie would stay in town at the house in Gibbon (this may have been more so in the later years).

Jennie lived a long full life as an American immigrant. It is stalwart women like her who were the mothers of this great country nurturing the children and men who were the very foundation of America. Hard working, devoted to her family, with skills learned the hard way, Jennie was a family icon who at the end of her life was greatly beloved and treasured.
