Mr. John Melvin Thompson, Sr. 66 of Conway, died Thursday, February 04, 2010. Mr. Thompson was born July 20, 1943 in Conway to the late William and Margaret (Moore) Thompson. He is also preceded in death by 10 siblings.

Mr. Thompson retired from Conway Public Schools, working mostly at Theodore Jones Elementary. He has been a member of Robinson & Center Church of Christ for 23 years. John was a sergeant in the US Army. He enjoyed fishing, but his life revolved around his grandchildren.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beverly (DeMar) Thompson of Conway; children Lena Faulkner of Jacksonville, John Melvin Thompson, II and wife Kim of Conway, Anethea McFarlin and husband Marcellis of Conway, Edward Thompson and wife Charleeka of Conway, Douglas Thompson and wife Tanya of Virginia Beach, VA, and Angelique Thompson and fiancé Vernon Moore of Conway; brothers Joel Thompson and Harry Thompson and wife Harriet, all of Conway, and sisters Gladys Waters of Conway and Mae Willie Jones of Little Rock; twelve grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 12, 2010 at Robinson and Center Church of Christ, officiated by Steve Norris. Burial will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements by Griffin Leggett Funeral Home
