Karen Anna (Dahlsaune) Aune, daughter of, Johannes Dahlasune.

Karen Anna Dahlsaune married Oldus Jorenson Nygeng Dahlsaune Aune.

Karen Anna Dahlsaune and Oldus Jorenson Aune children are:

Gusta Aune b. 1893
Justin Margido b. 1898
Ole Konard Aune b. 1899
Jennie Marie Aune b. 1902
Ragna Mathida Aune b. 1905
Arne Leonard Aune b. 1907
Olaf George Aune b. 1909

Karen Anna (Dahlsaune) Aune's dad lived with Karen and Odus Aune until 1905.

In Norway the house, granary, and barn were all connected together. Our home was built on a hillside and in the winter we could slide on our sleds for 2 miles to the store. But, oh, what a long ways home again. We had sheep, couws and a few chickens -- nor horses.

Karen was an excellent seamstress. We had a large weaving loom on which karen weaved all the fabric she used for making clothes for herself and the family. She also knitted all their socks.

As the family grew, we talked more and more about going to America. Finally with the help of Carl Oppegaard, a cousin who lived in America, we were able to leave Norway. Karen and I also decided that we would use the name Aune instead of Dahlsaune in America.

In March 1910 we packed up the family and left town of Mosvik and traveled by boat to Trondheim, Norway. From there we boarded a ship to England, crossed England by train and boarded a ship for America. Everyone in the family became seasick except me and one of the boys.

On April 18, 1910, after 3 weeks at sea, we arrived at Quebec, Canada. Our port of entrance into America was Detroit, Michigan. From there we rode the train to Minneapolis, then on to Hastings, ND, where we were met by Carl Oppegarrd, with his big red lumber wagon.

I worked for Carl for 5 years until I had paid back the money for the tickets. Gusta's ticket cost $75.00 and the younger the children the less the ticket cost.

The rest of this story is in the Aune Family Book and is written by Odus Jorgenson Aune.
