Born March 25, 1909, in Waynesboro, she was a daughter of the late J. Nelson and Edna Jones Wineman.
A member of Lower Path Valley Presbyterian Church, she was a former trustee and elder, a director of the choir, and a member of the Women's Association of the church.
A graduate of Chambersburg High School, class of 1926, she attended the former Penn Hall and Irving College, Mechanicsburg, and graduated in 1931 from Bucknell University. She took graduate courses at Duke University, the University of Utah and Shippensburg University.
A teacher for 39 years, she taught at Edinburgh (Texas) High School, Lemasters High School and Fannett-Metal High School.
A lifetime member of the National and Pennsylvania educational associations, she was a past president of Fannett-Metal Teachers Association; member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma; and a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees; and the National division of American Association of Retired Persons.
A member of Franklin County Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, she served two terms as regent from 1974-77 and 1980-83. She served as general chairman of the Pennsylvania State Conference of DAR and as state chairman of the DAR American History Month Committee.
She was a liftime member of the Historical Society of Fort Loudon.
She had served on the Franklin County Board of Public Assistance and had been a Democratic committeewoman.
Her husband, Raymond E. Shoop, died in July 1983.
Surviving are three nieces, Jane Wineman Shoop of Fannettsburg, Linda Wineman of Shippensburg and Barbara Wineman of Fannettsburg. A brother preceded her in death.
