Son of Jefferson Montgomery and Anna Eliza (Reynolds) Cassel. Rolla was born in Benton Co, IN, and as a young man moved to Idaho, where he was a baker and retaurant partner in Wallace City, Shoshone County in 1900. Rolla first married Anna Whinnery,and they had two children, Katherine (born 1897) and Owen (born 1900).
His second wife was Leah (last name unknown), and they moved together, first to Montana, then to Tacoma, where in 1918 they were the proprietors of a restaurant, "Mecca Lunch," located at 13th and Commerce in Tacoma.
Rolla died in 1920, and his obituary in the "Tacoma Daily Ledger" of 10 Mar 1920, follows: R. Floyd Cassel, 39 years old, died Wednesday at the family home, 913 South G Street. He had been a resident of Tacoma for six years, coming from Montana. His wife, Mrs. Leah Cassel; four brothers, Arthur Chester, Ray, Chesley, and Earl, all of Indiana, and a sister, Mrs. Nora Spotts of Los Angeles survive him. The body is at C.C. Mollinger's.
