A soldier has gone home. Leroy Brown, 75, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Atkins Nursing Home.

He was born July 30, 1937, in Pottsville, the son of Elmer Jackson and Beulah Lee Chesney Brown.

Always a soldier at heart, he served 22 and a half years in the U.S. Army, and received many ribbons, medals and stripes. He was a man of honor who loved his family, church, and country. When he retired, he had his favorite pastime, catfishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Charles Ketcherside; and grandson, Robert Brown.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine Brown; 5 sons, Michael Brown and Michaelann Jackson, Ed Brown, Gary Brown, Carl Brown and wife Laura, and Bob Brown and wife Renah; 2 daughters, Kimberley D. and husband George Krocker and Leilahni Ketcherside; sister, Linda Sue Griffin; grandchildren, Scott Polk, Sarah Ketcherside, Tommy Fleetwood, Edward Brown, Katie Brown, Charlie Brown, Hunter Brown, Jessica Brown, Amanda Brown and Shawn Gideon, Coty Brown, Nicci Farrow, Brian and wife Becky McClure, Andrew Krocker, Amber Gossnell and Becca Gossnell; and great-grandchildren, Tiffany Polk, Tristan Simons, Noah Ketcherside, Rylan Woods, Alex Long, Xavier Farrow, Haven and Alexa McGee, Adien, Connor and Brandon McClure, and Kaeleigh Gideon.

Funeral services are 11:00 AM Saturday, October 13, at Parker Hill Holiness Church with Bro. Tim Brimm officiating. Burial with military honors by V.F.W. Rogers Rye Post #2283 is in Pisgah Cemetery by Lemley Funeral of Atkins. Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday.

Pallbearers are Ronnie Halsted, Rickey Pruitt, James Brandon, Michael Brandon, Nathan Brandon and Harold Brown. Honorary pallbearers are the grandsons.
