"Funeral services for Charles Bartsh, 83, pioneer resident of Elba, who died of a heart attack Saturday at 5 p.m., will be conducted at the Elba Lutheran church Tuesday at 2 p.m. Mr. Bartsh was born at Breslau Germany, March 3, 1852, and came to the United States with his mother at the age of nine years, settling at Mayville, Wis. In the spring of 1871 he came to Elba, and married Minnie Nienow (my note, daughter to Johan and Wilhelmine Nienow), March 31, 1875. Since their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Bartsh have been prominent residents of this community, spending much of their life farming or in business in this vicinity. Four years were spent in business at Everest N. D. They retired from active work 23 years ago and moved to their home in the village (Elba). Mrs. Bartsh died ten months ago. Survivors are two sons, Albert and Herbert, Elba; one daughter Mrs. Joseph Mettel, Wadena; one half brother, Herman Mollert, Elba; two half sisters, Mrs. Ferdinand Loppnow (Caroline Mollert), Elba, and Mrs. Ida Schuchard, Napoleon, N.C., eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. One son, Edward, died in infancy."
