Born to Lloyd and Beatrice Nash of Flint Michigan, Marilyn and her sister Elizabeth lived through the Great Depression era. Although it was a difficult time, this prepared her to stand up as a young woman and take life by the horns. At the age of 17, while traveling with her mother to Los Angeles, she met a distinguished actor while playing tennis at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The actor was a fellow named Charlie Chaplin. Marilyn, having athletic ability and an outgoing personality was challenged to game of tennis by Mr. Chaplin who subsequently signed Marilyn to a multi-year contract with Chaplin Studios. Although she never became a major star, she went on to act in several movies including, Monsieur Verdoux and The Unknown World.
Through Chaplin she met and later married famous Broadway and Hollywood writer/producer Phillip Yordan, this marriage later ending in divorce in the early 50's. Marilyn was very active in local children's charities and as an active member of the Motion Picture Academy, headed many significant charity fund raisers that took place at famous mansions, including Playboy's Hugh Hefner's home and The Ten Commandments Director, Cecil B. Demille's home.
In the 1950's, she met and married Dr. Donald Franks and began raising her family. She was a casting director for several Hollywood movies that were made in Oroville California. "The Klansman", and "The Outlaw Josey Wales". She also went on to direct and star in several local theatrical productions, including Auntie Mame. In 2000 she married Mack Hill who along with Marilyn's parents and sister, predeceased her.
Marilyn is survived by 4 sons, their wives and 6 grandchildren.
A Memorial was held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Anglican Church, 228 Salem Street, Chico, Calif.
