James E. Burnham

Age 81 of St. Johns, Michigan passed away Monday, June 17, 2002 at Ashley Healthcare Center in Ashley. He owned and operated his own Farm Tiling Business. He started Hand-Tiling in 1943, and purchased a machine and started business in 1949. He also farmed all his life.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 21, 2002 at 11:00 A.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Pastor Tyler Barlage will officiate with burial at Eureka Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 and Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 P.m.

James was born on April 5, 1921 in St. Louis, Michigan, the son of Jeane W. & Lyna M. (Gotham) Burnham. On August 15, 1943 he married Dawn Petro at St. Louis Church of Christ in St. Louis. He was a member of Michigan Land Improvement Contractors Association, National Land Improvement Contractors Association, former Greenbush Township Trustee, and former member of Ovid-Elsie Rifle Association. He was a member of Community Christian Church in St. Johns, Michigan. He resided most of his life in St. Johns.

He is survived by his wife Dawn Burnham of St. Johns, 3 sons, Michael & Amy Burnham of Arlington Heights, IL, Jeff & Roxanne Burnham of St. Johns, John & Joann Burnham of Dewitt, 2 daughters, Coni & Mike Stephenson of Eagle, and Patricia & Alan Johnson of Otisville, 9 grandchildren, 4 sisters, Ione Anderson of Midland, Joyce Gee of Ann Arbor, Beatrice Dershem of Ann Arbor, and Barbara & Dale Anderson of Auburn, 2 brothers, Jeane Burnham of Florida, William & Sue Burnham of Perrinton, and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 daughter, Judith Ann Burnham, 2 sisters, Linda Stowe and Dorothy Rockafellow, 1 brother in-law, Bernard Rockafellow and 1 sister in-law, Diana Burnham.

Memorials may be made to Community Christian Church in St. Johns. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.
