Thelma L. Kratochvil, age 95 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, April 23, 2007, at the Golden Living Center. Mrs. Kratochvil was born November 14, 1911, in Lucas, Kansas, the daughter of Horace and Docia Whittaker Wilcox, both deceased. She was married July 31, 1932, in Lucas, Kansas, to J. Rogers Kratochvil, who preceded her in death on February 28, 2005. A resident of the central Missouri area since 1935, Mrs. Kratochvil was a 1933 graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in education. Mrs. Kratochvil began teaching in 1958 in Cedar City, later retiring from Simonsen Junior High School in 1971. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church, a member of the Friendship Club at the First Baptist Church, a P.T.A. leader, and a member of the Art Club. Mrs. Kratochvil was a parent of the Special Learning Center being instrumental in its establishment. She volunteered many hours at the center and was a board member since its creation in 1985. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include: two daughters, Margaret Baggett and her husband Bill of Jefferson City, Mo., and Mary Sebian and her husband Dennis of Cleveland, Ohio; three grandchildren, John Kratochvil III and his wife Rosa of Jackson, Mississippi, Melanie Holiman of Jackson, Mississippi, and Jessica Gove-Zenil and her husband Jorge of Louisville, Kentucky; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, John Kratochvil Jr. in 1990. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the Freeman Mortuary from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Saturday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Special Learning Center. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
