Gladys Thede was born on April 25, 1917 at Lake City to parents William and Emma (Sporleder) Thede. Gladys graduated from Westview High School at Lake City. She married Frank Alcox on April 8, 1939 at the Woodlawn Christian Church Parsonage at Lake City. They farmed for 10 years then for the next 20 years she was the bookkeeper for Alcox Sales and Service in Lake City. She was employed at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City in the Dietary Department for 10 years. She held various offices in the Christian Women's Fellowship at the Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City. Member of the Rebecca Lodge for 15 years. Lifelong resident of the Lake City area.
Survivors include her sons, Melvin (Phyllis) Alcox of Lake City and Harley (Linda) Alcox of Nevada, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kevin (Carla) Alcox of Littleton, Colorado, Traci (Curtis) Mason of Missouri City, Texas, Shelly (Raul) Perez of Nevada, Iowa, and Curtis (Christi) Alcox of St. Charles, Missouri; One brother Eugene Thede of Union, Illinois. Preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan Thede and Raymond Thede; two sisters, Lois Bowie, and Dorothy DeVries.
