Henry Whitney "Harry" Berryman was the only son of Charles Henry Berryman (1833–1893) and his wife Harriet Whitney (1838–1912). He was the great-grandson of millionaire, Stephen Whitney. He had 2 sisters Caroline and Georgianna, respectively Mrs. Lorillard Spencer and Mrs. Casimir De Rahm.
H W Berryman spent his time at his Summer home in Succasunna, Morris County, NJ raising and showing Old English Sheepdogs. He visited the City for the Social Season and was quite the popular bachelor.
Harry was married in about 1906 to Esther 'Esta' Greene (b.1878) of Goole, England. It was not commonly known that he had married. He had met her at her brother's home in NY. Prior to this disclosure his death people had believed him to be a confirmed bachelor.
It has come to this writer''s attention that Henry appears to have lived a secret life. He had a possible secret marriage to a girl of Irish descent, Mary G. Logan, daughter of Robert Logan of Ireland & New York City. Her family lore says that, because she was Catholic, his parents disavowed him.
Henry and Mary had 2 children:
1) Gertrude Berryman (B: 1892 NJ), w/o William Sharpe (B: c.1886), a Railroad Man, and mother of Myrtle Gladys Sharpe (1910 AZ – aft 1940) w/o William James Herbert Pink.
2) George Edward Berryman (1893 NY - 1971 NY), born Edgar Logan Berryman, h/o Rose Lawlor (1900–1964) and father of Joan, George, Richard, Janette and Ann.
