Harvey was the son of Texas natives William Marvin and Rachel Lee Hawkins Hodnett. He was one of 7 children and had 4 step siblings from his father's first marriage as well.
A US Army veteran of WWII, Harvey served his country in the European theater. In 1949 he married Willa Dean Pye, the sister of one of his army buddies. They had two sons by 1951 when Willa Dean died. The following year Harvey married Margaret Light who was a dear friend of his sister Dorothy. Together they had two more sons.
During his lifetime Harvey held a variety of jobs including a job with the Texas Highway department and sharecropping in Texas, as well as managing a farm, working as a mail carrier, and as a maintenance man for the Centurytel phone company in Baxter County, Arkansas.
Harvey had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good joke or tall tale. He was a fan of country and bluegrass music as well as an avid fisherman. He took pride in his beautiful flowers and productive vegetable garden. Harvey's biggest passion was Margaret, his four sons and two grandchildren who he enjoyed indulging at every opportunity.
Harvey was survived by all six of his siblings and a host of close friends. Of his step siblings only Wiiliam Roy Hodnett preceded him in death.
