Jacob L. Buck, 80, Father of Bismarckers

JAMESTOWN - Jacob L. Buck, 80-year-old Logan and Stutsman county pioneer, died Monday (Nov. 16. 1970) at a hospital in Stutsman. He was the father of Leslie J. and Duane D. Buck. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday (Nov. 20, 1970) in the Assembly of God Church in Jamestown with the Rev. Leo Miller officiating. Burial will be made at Streeter.
Mr. Buck was born Jan. 7, 1890, in Bessarabia, South Russia, to Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Buck, Sr. He was three years old when his family came to this country, settling at Richville, southwest of Streeter in Logan County. In 1894, the family moved to a farm southwest of Streeter where he grew up and later farmed. (In 1890, Bessarabia was in what we know today as Odessa, Ukraine.)
He married Ida Tesky at Napoleon August 11, 1934. They lived on the family homestead until 1944 when they moved into Streeter. Mr. Buck operated a dray line there until retiring in 1955. They moved to Jamestown in 1968.
Mr. Buck was a charter member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Streeter, serving as secretary for many years. He also served as clerk of the rural school board.
He leaves his wife and their two sons at Bismarck; three grandchildren; one brother, Alex, Jamestown; and three sisters, Mrs. Carolina Sukut, Sioux Falls, S.D., Mrs. Julia Ketterling, Jamestown, and Mrs. Maria Ketterling, Napoleon.
