Michael Joseph Bernardo
1948 - 2010

Michael Joseph Bernardo passed away suddenly on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at the young age of 62. He was born in Ross, Calif., to Peter and Marguerite Bernardo. Michael grew up in northern California, graduating from Mountain Eden High School in Hayward, Calif., in 1966.

Michael worked for the Livermore Radiation Lab as a machinist, prior to joining the Army in 1968. He served in Vietnam until March 1970, receiving an honorable discharge in 1974. While serving in Vietnam, Michael was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Bronze Star. Michael served his country with honor.

After earning his degree in computer science, he worked at the "Blue Cube" tracking station in Sunnyvale, Calif., for many years. Mike loved all things mechanical, building custom motorcycles and cars. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley with his friends. He was an avid NHRA fan, attending numerous events. He was also a dog lover and had many dogs over the years.

He had always wanted to retire to Chino Valley and that opportunity happened in January 2008. He lived there until his passing. During this time he joined the American Legion Post 40 in Chino Valley and made numerous friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Peter Joseph Bernardo. He leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Marie Linette Bernardo; mother Marguerite Bernardo of Auburn, Calif.; brothers Robert Bernardo of Reno, Nev., and Sam Bernardo of Yuma, Ariz.; and sisters Karen Guiterrez of Auburn, Calif., Beverly Ravazza of Arnold, Calif., Pam Mowry of Roseville, Calif., Rene Bernardo of Salina, Kan., and Donna Wade of Lone, Calif. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be private family service. A celebration of Michael's life will take place at his home Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010.

Chino Valley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. To sign Mike's guestbook and share memories, visit www.heritagefuneralchapels.com.
