APFEL, Joan Paula "Joannie" Age 47, of Centerville, lost her brave battle with cancer on Thursday December 12, 2002. Her gentle nature, personality and warm smile warmed everyone's hearts. She had a passion and love of music that was infectious to all that met her, either in the classroom or when touring with her students. She was an accomplished concert clarinetist and also enjoyed playing the piano, deep sea fishing, cooking, traveling, or simply enjoying quiet times with her dog Niko. Joannie graduated from Wright State University and had a 23 year career as a music instructor in the Clark-Shawnee Local School District. She was a member of the Sinclair Wind Symphony, National Association For Music Education, Dayton Musicians Association and International Clarinetist Association. She faced life with tremendous courage, dignity and dedication that set her apart. She inspired all with her kindness, laughter and gentle nature. She will be remembered by all who had the opportunity to meet her. Joannie is survived by her parents Bernie and Ida Apfel, brothers Dr. Philip Apfel, Raymond and his wife Jean Apfel, niece Shannon Apfel, nephew Jarid Apfel, fiance Greg Oochenour, and a host of other family members and friends. Funeral service will be held Sunday December 15, 2002 at 1 :00 P.M. at the Beth Abraham Cemetery Chapel 1817 W. Schantz Ave. Rabbi Dov Rubin officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation in her memory. Bradford - Connelly & Glickler Funeral Home handling arrangements.
