Will McMurray was born in Marshalltown, Jasper, Iowa, but lived in Newton, Jasper, Iowa for most of his life. The 1892 Newton High School Graduation Class program lists him as "Willie McMurray", and one of only 11 graduates for that year.
During the Spanish-American War (1898) he was a member of the Iowa National Guard, Co. L, 2nd Regiment, as was his brother Harry.
Will married Lynette Payne of California on 06 June 1899 in Marshalltown. They lived in Newton and Will had a a grocery store for many years. He even had a baker at the store. (Robert Goforth's WW I draft registration lists him as working for Will McMurray as a baker.)
Will and Lynette had three children: Edward Arthur (Sr), Maude Lynette "Midge" (married Arthur Cook), and Herbert C. McMurray.
