Gary "Butch" K. Large, Sr., of Linwood, Kansas passed away on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008. Memorial Services will be 6 p.m., Wed., Nov. 5, at the Alden- Harrington Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 4 to 6 prior to the service, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home. Butch was born on June 19, 1947 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was raised, and attended schools, in Linwood, Kansas. He retired after 33 years, still a member of the Laborers' International Union Local # 1290, where he was a pipe layer/superintendent. He was also certified as an Explosive Technician. Gary was very proud that he and his wife received the Ovid Snider Award from the city of Linwood in 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo Harvel and Gladys Large. Survivors include his wife of 43 years Ellenor Large of the home, one son Gary Keith Large, Jr. and wife Julie of Linwood, and was like a father to his sister- in-law Shelley Moore of Overland Park, KS, one granddaughter Julianne and husband Ty Hawkinson of Bonner Springs, KS, one sister Nadine Gash and four brothers Frances, Charlie, Burl, and Merle.
