Ruth Izetta Myers-Cox

Written by her family:

We are here to celebrate the life of Ruth Izetta Myers-Cox

Ruth was born to William E. & Lillian M. Myers on May 27 1898 in Dodge, Oregon. Her family was one of the early Pioneers in the area. She had 3 brothers & 1 sister who have all predeceased her.

She married Stanford Joe Cox, a logger in the Elwood area, on December 24, 1914. They lived in Elwood and surrounding area. Together they had 4 children: Norman O., Hazel M., Leroy R., and Arnold R. Her daughter, Hazel, died in 1993.

In 1943 Ruth and Stanford moved to "Ocean Lake", Oregon, now a part of Lincoln City. She was a homemaker, but on occasion worked in a Doctor's Office as an assistant. In 1960 Stanford passed away. She remained in her home until health forced her to be moved to the Yaquaina Care Center in 1986, Newport, Oregon.

From earliest memories, Ruth loved and served the Lord. She taught Sunday School for many years.

She served as a role model of what a Christian woman was to be to her children, her 12 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Lincoln City, Oregon.

My father took me often to 'visit' Aunt Ruth and Uncle Stanford. I spent one Summer vacation there.... They took me to the 'Sea Lion Caves'... It was beautiful... We took 'drives' on Sundays to a new destination each time.. always at the 'coast'... I attended 'Daily Vacation Bible School' in "Ocean Lake"....

I had to memorize 'scripture'... stand up and recite it in front of 'parents' who came to our program... It still is in my memory....

Oh... not to forget.. Aunt Ruth bought me my 1st 'bows' for my hair... They were like a hair clip with a big 'bow' on it...

I Love my Aunt and Uncle very much... They are the people who helped 'create' my 'personality'....
