Dorothy Cox, 80, of Michigan City, IN, formerly of Coffeen, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009.

A private family memorial service and burial will be held Monday, Nov. 16, at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Schererville, IN.

Mrs. Cox, mother of Coffeen resident Robin Moore, was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Elkfork, KY, daughter of the late Jesse and Arminta Ball. She grew up on her family farm and married Ora Cox of Moon, KY, on Sept. 14, 1943.

Following Mr. Cox's ordination as a Baptist minister in 1951, Mrs. Cox was a life-long participant in his ministry. She was an active member of the Black Oak Community Church in Gary, IN, and later was a founding member of the Brunswick General Baptist Church in Gary.

After Mr. Cox retired, the couple moved to Belton, KY, in 1986, where they enjoyed farm living, especially raising chickens. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Belton-Beechmont General Baptist Church while living in Belton. She was also commissioned into the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

In 1999, Mr. and Mrs. Cox moved to Coffeen where Mrs. Cox was a member of the Coffeen Chapter of the Royal Neighbors of America. Mr. Cox died in 2007 after 63 years of marriage, and Mrs. Cox then moved to Michigan City, IN.

Also preceding her in death were eight brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Cox leaves two sons, Michael (wife DeVonna) Cox of Hewitt, TX, and Paul Cox of San Antonio, TX; three daughters, Patricia (husband James) Forrest of LaPorte, IN, Elaine LaWell of Munster, IN, and Robin (husband Billy) Moore of Coffeen; grandchildren, Kelly (wife Deborah) Koss of Union Mills, IN, Kerry (wife Brenda) Koss of Walkerton, IN, Brian (wife Lauren) Cox of Houston, TX, Kevin (wife Christie) Cox of Mountain Village, CO, and Leelannee Moore of Coffeen.

Also surviving are two great-grandchildren; stepmother and life-long friend Virginia Ball of Elkfork, KY; and half sisters, Florence (husband Edward) Gilliam of Elkfork, KY, and Debbie (husband Louis) Skaggs of Moon, KY.
