The only child of Major Joseph C. Watkins and Lora Lee LaMance, Loralee was born in Pineville, McDonald County, Missouri on August 2, 1904. As a small child the family moved to Joplin, Missouri where her father, a civil engineer, worked for the McDonald Land Company owned by August Hecksher of New York. Around 1917 her father's work brought the family to Lake Wales, Florida.
Loralee attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, graduating in 1926. In September 1926 she married Robert L. Johnson, son of one of Lake Wales founders. They were the parents of two children, a son and daughter, and remained in Lake Wales throughout their lives.
Grandmother loved to travel and did so whenever she had the opportunity. She was a gracious hostess and after her parents death she moved into the lovely home on Lakeshore Blvd. where she lived for the next 50 plus years.
