Zelma Leah Balzer was the youngest of nine children. Her parents were George and Mary (Dittmer) Balzer.

Zelma married twice: (1) C. C. Haworth; and (2) Ernest M. Daniels. The marriage to Mr. Haworth ended either in death or divorce. The 1940 U. S. Census lists Zelma as divorced, but there is a death notice in Santa Monica for a "Claude C. Haworth", husband of Mrs. Zelma Haworth.
