Charles (Garabed in Armenian) was a native of Kayseri, Turkey in the Ottoman Empire. His father's name was Ghazaros and his mother was Angel? Hajohemian?. Charles was married there to a woman who died around 1913. He married Lousaper "Lucy" Kesdekian on April 29, 1920 in Philadelphia. She had been married once before in Turkey but her husband (last name given as Melikian) died around 1916, likely due to the Armenian Genocide. Lousaper listed her father's name as also being Ghazaros and her mother was Yepraske Tekirian, both died by the time of her second marriage in 1920 and had not left Turkey. Charles and Lucy had children George and Grace, and in 1930 they were also living with his sister Marine. He became a U.S. citizen in 1940. In 1942 he lived at 5763 Walton Avenue and had his own shoemaker shop at 134 South 37th Street, both in Philadelphia. He died of carniocerebral injuries and also had bronchopneumonia and arteriosclerosis.
