Birth: Mar. 10, 1833
Death: Nov. 11, 1916

Emaline Lola "Em" BORTON was the daughter of Ezra & Jane Dennis HEACOCK born in the Village of Lexington, Stark Co., OH. There were mostly Quakers in the area so they married other Quakers, for the most part. She met Benjamin Wm Gaskill, at one of their meetings and on 18 Sep 1852, they were wed in Canfield, Mahoning Co., OH.

As they moved about from OH to IN to NE, they managed to have 8 children: Celesta Jane "Lettie" (1853 OH); Lewis Ezra (1855 OH); Israel Frank (1858 OH); William Emerson "Will" , my mom's dad, (1862 OH); Anna Bell (1864 OH); Eva May (1866 IN); Margaret Lola "Maggie" (1868 IN) & Milton Valentine "Little Robin" (1870 IN).

Ben & Em's final destination, in 1915, after being married since 1852, was the SOLDIERS & SAILORS HOME in Burkett Station, Grand Island, Hall Co., NE. They were there about a year when Em d. Ben remained there, as he was able to dine in the main house, until his demise. They were both bur. in the home's cemetery.

I have visited said home and the Sup't, Mr. Brabender, allowed me to look through what Ben & Em had left behind, in the way of old letters, etc. I kept one from his son, Will, my grandfather, to his pa from Arkansas.
