1936 Aug 28 - Cadillac - Mary Elnora Boshaw was born Sunday 03 Mar 1871 in Kimball to Peter & Mary A (Sterling) Boshaw. She married Abel Yeager Thursday 31 Oct 1889 in Fort Gratiot. After his death she married Ralph Milo Babcock Thursday 01 Jul 1909 in Cadillac. She was a housewife all of her life. While Abel & Elnora lived in Port Huron they lived at the "Old Nelson Mill" called the "Blue Cut Place". Abel worked on "The Old Jay E (J E)". Once there was a storm and the boat didn't return as planned so Dan and Elnora Yager went to Canada to look for them with no success. When the boat finally returned she found out that the boat was laid up on an Island to wait out the storm. Abel worked on the boat with Elnora's brother Peter Boshaw.
On 02 Feb 1899 the family moved from Port Huron to Wexford County where he bought land for $1 per acre in Selma Twp. At that time they owned 120 acres in Section 27 of Selma Twp. It was called "Forest Home". The 1914 Plat book shows the 40 acres as the M Yager Estate. There was a lot of Cedar on the land and it is said that Abel had a long handled axe and cut everything in sight on 40 acres. At the time of Abel's death the family was living on the Ace Platz place on the Lake Road, 1/2 mile south of the Boon Road. Shortly after Ace Platz died the family moved back to the home place. It was there that their son Theodore had his fingers blown off with dynamite caps. He had been playing along the railroad tracks when he found the caps, thinking they were empty shells he tapped them on the stove to get the dirt out of them, when the caps exploded. After his death Elnora was then left to fend for herself and the four young children, with a fifth on the way, who were still at home. Elnora couldn't keep up with the taxes so the land went back to the State. The land was then sold to Frank & Tracy Smith, who was a half-sister to Elnora. They lived there for some time until Elnora married Ralph Babcock then after their marriage they moved around quite a bit.
NOTE ON NAME CHANGE: After Abel married Elnora she made him change his last name from Yeager to Yager because his relatives in Southern Michigan had been in trouble with the law and she didn't want to be associated with them.
