David lived in Dauphin County until he was 21 years of age (until about 1814) in the vicinity of Harrisburg. He was apprenticed to a carpenter, served his full apprenticeship and mastered all details of that trade. When about age 25 (about 1818) he went to Union County where he married Catharine J. Arnold. His brother John B. LaBorde and his family lived just across the Susquehanna River in Northumberland County. David and Catharine resided in Union County for about 7 years (about 1826-1827) before moving his family to Clearfield County with his brother John and his family. Here, west of Rockton, he secured a tract of timber land, cleared it, improved it and succeeded in placing many acres under cultivation. He lived there about 30 years then in 1855 moved his family to an 80-acre farm in Rock Grove Twp, Stephenson County, Illinois, which he had purchased. His land was bounded on the north by East Rock Grove Road (County Highway 4) and on the west by North Pleasant Hill Road--the farmhouse was on Rock Grove Road, the barn still exists with its fieldstone foundation but now it has a modern tin roof. There he remained until the last days of his life.

David LaBorde's obituary, Freeport Weekly Bulletin, 9 Mar 1876, p1:
March 2nd, 1876, in the township of Rock Grove, two miles west of the village of Rock Grove, David Laborde, aged 82 years, 7 months and 21 days.
The deceased was born in Lancaster county, Pa., July 11, 1793; was married in Union county, Pa., January 9th, 1818 to Catharine, his wife, who still survives him. For 58 years they have journeyed together, sharing mutually the labors, burdens and cares of life. Unto them were born thirteen children, eight of whom are now living [Philip, Peter, John, Catharine, Abraham, Eliza, Joseph, William]; they have sixty-three grand-children and fourteen great grand-children living, nearly all of whom were present at the funeral. The deceased, a man of Christian integrity, proved not only by his life but by his patient suffering and death the sterling worth and priceless value of the religion of Jesus Christ. His sufferings for the past six months were most intense, the cause of which was cancer in the eye, and were relieved only when death released his spirit. The funeral services were held in the church at Rock Grove, where a large procession of neighbors and friends were addressed from the word of Job 14-14: "If a man die shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait till my change come."
