Beatrice S. Butala, age 87, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Fr. Murray Nursing Home in Center Line, Michigan. To many, Beatrice was known as "Sassy", often introducing herself this way! Beatrice was born on October 29, 1924 to Jason J. Johnson and Leona (nee: Barham) Johnson in Hamtramck, Michigan. She grew up in Hamtramck and graduated from Hamtramck High School. She worked during the WW II years in manufacturing at Packard Motor Car Company and later Champion Spark Plug Company. She also worked at Sanders. She always enjoyed "Downtown Detroit" and it's jewel in the Detroit River: Belle Isle. Beatrice enjoyed walking everywhere she went, never driving. Beatrice stayed at home and worked tirelessly raising her family. She is survived by her children, Raymond Butala of Milford, MI, Jay (Sue) Butala of Rochester, MI and Valerie (Randy) Moore of Eastpointe, MI, son-in-law, Bill Schaub; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Beatrice was predeceased by her daughter, Darlene Schaub, two sisters and three brothers. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. (with a Scripture Service at 8:30 p.m.) Friday, January 6, 2012 at Kaul Funeral Home - 27830 Gratiot Avenue (on the east side of Gratiot between I-696 and Martin Road) Roseville.

Grandma Bea was an amazing lady. She had a larger-than-life personality - hence the nickname "Sassy." She was so outspoken and funny. We're all going to miss her so much.
