From a relative:
I was very happy to get your message about Ida Boehnke! She was an older sister of my great grandfather, Adolph Voigt. They moved away from Bon Homme County in the 1880's, and I knew it was to the Faulkton area, but had little more information about her, except that she died in 1889. I did not know where she died or where she was buried. You are correct, she died in childbirth. The baby girl was named Ida after her mother, and did not survive. I assume the baby is buried with her mother, as was common at the time, instead of having a separate burial plot and coffin for the baby. I am so happy to see the photo of her tombstone, and hope to get to the cemetery myself someday to see it.
She was born December 7, 1854, in Nordhauland, West Prussia. Ida Voigt immigrated to America with her parents in June of 1872. They settled in Henry County, Illinois for two years, and Ida married Johann Boehnke in Illinois in 1873. The Voigts moved on to Bon Homme County, Dakota Territory, in 1874. Johann and Ida Boehnke followed them to Dakota Territory sometime before the 1880 census, but I don't know the year of their move. Johann was a farmer there. They moved up to the Faulkton area in 1885. Johann & Ida actually had 6 children. A son, Wilhelm Boehnke, died in 1881 in Bon Homme County, and the daughter Ida who died at birth in 1889. Four daughters, Bertha (named for Ida's grandmother), Mathilda, Martha, and Mary, lived to adulthood and married. John moved to North Dakota in 1895, and raised another family with his second wife.
