Harold L. BAXTER, 95, of Springfield, died Saturday, May 29, 1993 in Good Shepherd Nursing Home. He was born on July 15, 1897, the son of Charles P. BAXTER (former mayor of Springfield) and Carrie L. (CLICK) BAXTER. Mr. BAXTER was the former co-owner of Baxter-Nafz Plumbing Company. He was a lifelong active member of the First Lutheran Church, a member of Local Union Number 97 of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters, and St. Andrews Lodge Number 619 (F&AM). He served in the Chemical Warfare Division of the United States Army during World War I. For many years he was affectionately referred to as the "Mayor of Cassilly Street" by his many neighborhood friends. Survivors include one niece, Geneva LOUDEN of Urbana; one nephew, Martin DONNELY of Springfield; close friends, Frank and Rita Burns, Bill and Peggy Waln, and Jim and Betty McGowan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace (THOMAS) BAXTER and one sister, Helen BAXTER. Graveside services will be held in the New Carlisle Cemetery at 10 a.m. Tuesday, officiated by Rev. Lawrence T. Rugh and Rev. David Imhoff. Arrangements are being handled by the Littleton and Rue Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
