Birth: 1825
Oconee County
South Carolina, USA
Death: Jul. 30, 1864
Petersburg City
Virginia, USA

Aaron Cain was born in Pickens District, SC, the first child of William Cain Sr. and Mary "Polly" Mason. On February 17, 1850, he married Mariam Cole. Four children were born to Aaron and Mariam: Mary Jane (1850 SC - 1918 GA, m.Benson Towers Honea); William H.P. (1852 SC - 1929 TX, m.Anna Louiza Gibson); Laura Charlotte (1854 SC - 1935 TX, m.Robert A. Martin ); and Martha Anna (1860 SC - 1918 GA, m.Wm. A. Terrell). Mariam recorded their marriage and the birth of their children in her Bible. Aaron and Mariam lived and farmed on part of Aaron's father's land in what is now Oconee County, South Carolina. Several years later, Aaron purchased additional acreage in Oconee County, specifically "on a branch of Snow Creek, waters of Coneross Creek, waters of Seneca River..." In 1862, Aaron enlisted as a private in Co. K, 22nd Regiment of the South Carolina Confederate Volunteers. His brothers Joel, Lewis and Richard Cain all enlisted in the same regiment. Aaron and his brother Joel died at the Siege of Petersburg, Virginia on July 30, 1864.

Since Aaron died at the Siege of Petersburg, and his body was never recovered, he is not actually buried at Center Methodist Church Cemetery. A military headstone was placed for him by his descendants over 100 years later. However, Aaron was not a member of Center Methodist Church. He was actually a member of New Bethel Baptist in Oconee County. Aaron's name appears in the mid-1800's handwritten minutes of New Bethel Church (currently known as Bethel Baptist Church, 160 Bethel Baptist Church Rd., Westminster 29693). Aaron's mother is interred at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
