Leon W. Boardway. Services for Chief Warrant Officer Leon W. Boardway, who died at Belton Wednesday, will be held at the Fort Sam Houston Post Chapel at 10:00 A.M., Friday. Interment will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Boardway served in World War II, and until his retirement in 1947, served with the Office of the Adjutant General, Eighth Corps Area, San Antonio. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Enlisted in the US Army in 1908 at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri. He served in the 7th U.S. Calvary, Co. K, from 1908-1911 at Ft. McKinley, Rizal, Philipines. He also served in World War I and II, was in the 8th Service Command, and was Chief Warrant Officer at the time of his retirement in 1947.
Leon changed his name as a young man. At his birth on 11 May 1889 in Bangor, Maine, he was named Louis (or Lewis) W. Bolton. His father was Walter S. Bolton (1856-1910) and his mother was Louise Marie Baker (1861-1893), both of Bangor, Maine.
