Miss Melvina C. Cline was born in Appanoose County, Iowa, November 18, 1845, and depart this life December 17, 1914 at Fredonia, Kansas. When quite young she removed with her parents from Iowa to Daviess County, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Henry Clay Graham on 6 March 1868; to them were born nine children, one of whom has passed over. Those remaining are Mrs. Julia Van meter and Jerry S. Graham of Fredonia, Kansas, T. L. Graham of Trenton, Missouri, S.B. Graham of Climax, Kansas, Mrs. W. M. Petty of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mrs. Maud Kingery, J. R. Graham and Mrs. Harry Johnson of Whittier, California.

Mr. and Mrs. Graham moved to Greenwood County, Kansas in 1883, where he resided until nine months ago when she moved to Fredonia, Kansas, her husband having preceded her to the other world in 1905. Mrs. Graham was a member of the Christian of Eureka, Kansas. While she made no loud profession she lived a faithful and consistent life, a good neighbor, a faithful and true companion and mother. She leaves behind eight children as above and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Nutter, of Woodward, Oklahoma, and a brother, S. T. Cline of Eureka, Kansas. Her funeral was held in the Baptist Church at Climax on Sunday, December 20, 1914 by Rev. William Hoover. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, Kansas.

There is an original photo at the Greenwood Historical Society donated by her grandson, James Robert Graham Jr. The frame is oval and has a blue canvas with vortex glass.
It's a very lovely piece that brought joy to me knowing it hangs there as a reminder of a simpler life, yet even in those times they were hardship to overcome as they made a life for themselves out on the open range of the prairie.
