Benberry, Hershel C. Age 62, of Aurora went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the University of Wisconsin Hospital-Madison, surrounded by his loving family. Hershel was born February 25, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio to Herman Benberry and Mary Benberry-Washington. Hershel graduated from the University of Illinois-Champaign with a B.S. and M.S. in Education, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Administration from Northern Illinois University. He worked his entire career of 34 years at West Aurora High School as a Driver Education teacher, of which 33 years he also served as Department Chairman. Hershel was an accomplished athlete during his high school and college years who gained recognition among other things as two-time IHSA Shot Put Champion. Hershel used his love for sportsmanship to coach Track and Field and Football at West Aurora. Hershel was known for his tenacity and ability to overcome tremendous physical challenges. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 39 years, Laetitia; two sons, Hershel M. and Jeremy D.; his brother, Michael; his sister, Judith; step-father, Frank Washington; siblings, Maurice, Darryl and Monica; his uncle, Allen Young and countless family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary Washington; his father, Herman Benberry and his beloved father-in-law Rev. Hiram Crawford. He attended Calvary Church, Naperville and was a board member of the Aurora African American Health Fair Committee and Pro-Life Pro-Family Coalition (founded by his father-in-law the late Rev. Hiram Crawford). Visitation will be at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr. Sugar Grove on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 4 until 8 P.M. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Church, 9S200 Route 59, Naperville, Illinois. Please use the south entrance (door # 9) at the church. Rev. Dan Haas will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family is asking friends to donate to the Aurora African American Health Fair Committee, in memory of Hershel C. Benberry, c/o Old Second Bank, 37 S.
