MRS. F. G. THOMAS
Birdie Hoxie was born to Joseph and Maria Hoxie at Hanover in October, 1871, and passed away at her home in Republic July 29, 1940, at the ace of 68 years, 7 months and 6 days.

She came with her parents to a farm, north of Republic in 1873, and moved into Republic six years later and has lived in this community ever since.

In August, 1902 she was united in marriage to F. G. Tbomas and to this union were born five children.

She was preceded in death by her husband ten years ago and by three brothers, Loren and Milo Hoxie and Orlo Owens.

She leaves to mourn her loss her children, James H., Margaret L., May E., Edith L., and Bonnie Jean and one son, Foster Bending of Fresno, Cal.; ten grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, Frank Hoxie of Shenandoah, Ia., Joe Hoxie of Hollenburg and Maude Gorree of Fresno, Cal.; two half-brothers and two half-sisters, Will Hoxie of Denver, George Hoxie of Luck, Wyo., Marvel of Hollenburg; and Elva of Omaha; many nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.

She was one of the real pioneers of Kansas who gave a precious heritage to America, and the rich experiences of her life will be a great memorial to her children. She has seen and endured all the hardships of pioneer life. She was a good mother, a kind and willing neighbor, a true friend and a good citizen, always anxious to help in time of sickness or need, willing to give of her over-abundance of energy to help family or friends. She had been failing in health for the last few months was nursed for the first seven weeks by her daughter, Bonnie Jean of Fresno.

Funeral services were held in the United Brethren church of Republic Wednesday, July 31, the Rev. Gertrude Pettibon officiating. Interment was made in the Lake cemetery.
