In 1872, at 19 yrs of age, Mary traveled with her parents to Canada on the ship "Alexandria. They lived with her Uncle William Scarrow in Guelph, Wellington county, Ontario, Canada.

Mary Cheville had a child with Gideon Hood, born 25 Apr at Galt, Ontario, Canada according to birth certificate 1873-05-022352. Gideon and Mary were never married. The girl was named Elizabeth Hood. Elizabeth went to live with relatives in England and apparently never lived with her mother until she was an adult, according to various census records. Elizabeth had a difficult childhood, according to family members.

Mary had a second child, which she named William Cheville, on June 26, 1879.

Mary moved to Rochester, New York and married Frank Boor. He gambled on the horse races. He was arrested for embezzling $200 from his workplace, Schulte Soap Company, and was arrested in Marshall, Michigan in 1893 for the offense.

Mary left Frank and became a companion to a woman who's husband was involved in the study of rice production. She went to Japan for 2 years with the woman. The photo of Mary standing next to a flowering tree was taken in Japan.

She married Henry Waddell in Rochester, New York on May 19, 1905. Henry was a partner in a grocery store, but was not adept at business. He declared bankruptcy, and Henry and Mary moved to Davenport, IA and lived in Scott County for more than 10 years before moving back to New York. Henry died Jan. 13, 1944. He was listed as a woodworker in the 1927 census for Rochester.

Mary had many wonderful pieces from her travels around the world, she brought back wonderful household furniture. Screens, chrysanthemums embroidered on black satin, large beaded lanterns, china, etc. On the last day of her life, she was on the way to her lawyer's office to change her will. She stopped at her doctor's office first, had a heart attack and died on the way to the hospital. Her only child received nothing of her mother's.
