|Birth: ||Oct. 31, 1928|

The journey on earth, for Earl Eugene Backus, ended on Wednesday February 1, 2012. The ravages of Parkinson's Disease robbed a quality of life and happiness from his being.
The beginning of Earl's life on earth began at the home of his parents, Elmer Eugene and Gertrude Violet Cordner Backus, on October 31, 1928. The process of growing-up on a fruit farm taught him the value of work, integrity, honesty and dependability. Is it any wonder that with this foundation he learned to appreciate all the things that grow and the beauties of the earth? Earl grew in stature and in the gospel. He was diligent and faithful in all of his callings with a love and willingness to serve our Heavenly Father.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother, D.O. (Nita Doman) Backus; his brother-in-law, Remo Pyne; and his sister-in-law, JuLane Goodrich. Survived by his wife, Anna Jean Duncan Backus; children, Carol (LaMar) Beardall; Gail (Richard) Tolley; Kathryn Palmer; Duncan (Meg Yu-Chiao Kuo)Backus; siblings, Gary (Joyce Gillman) Backus; LaRae (DeLoy) Slack; Gerene Pyne; Richard (Judy Pyne) Backus; Delano (Mary Bishop) Backus; Russel (Margaret Elmer) Backus; 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Born on October 31, 1928, Earl was the oldest of eight children of Elmer Eugene Backus and Gertrude Violet Cordner. He was raised in Orem, Utah and worked on his father's orchard. He married Anna Jean Duncan and was the father of four children, raising them in a comfortable home he built section by section on the core of a cinder-block garage. He worked at numerous jobs during his life, including milkman and furniture salesman; but his farm roots always called to him and his large Orem property was the source of phenomenal grapes, cherries, peaches, berries and other produce. He retired with his wife to Moroni, Utah, where he spent his last years surrounded by family.
