FORMER MANAGER OF BANDS SUCH AS THE DOORS, DION AND ROD McKUEN...AND FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS OF HIS LIFE A TOUR DIRECTOR FOR POP IDOL NEIL DIAMOND
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Veteran music tour producer Sal Bonafede, who worked with acts such as the Doors, Michael Jackson and Neil Diamond, died in his home in Los Angeles.
Bonafede's career spanned more than 30 years, 20 of which were spent producing Diamond's tours, Variety said Monday. The report did not give his age.
AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips, who worked with Bonafede on Diamond's North American tours, told Variety, "Sal was both excruciatingly relentless if he wanted something, and wonderful if you needed a friend."
Bonafede, in an interview with Billboard magazine last year, said working on Diamond's tours was rewarding personally and professionally.
"How many artists have had they type of career Neil has had?" Bonafede asked. "I'm very proud to have headed up his team all these years."
Bonafede, who died Feb. 14, is survived by his wife, two sons and four grandchildren.
