J.L. Atkisson was among the pioneer families of Benton County. In his days he say the city of Rogers grow from two or three houses to one of the best little cities of the state. He saw the apple industry start and he worked in the fruit business with the late J.W. Stroud and others for many years, making a large acquaintance of business men. He served as manager of the Garfield Fruit Growers' Association for about 15 years. In all his dealings he was honest, upright, always willing to go to extremes to correct any mistake that might have been made. He was always ready to help the poor, the school and country in which we live. [Benton County Record & Democrat & Sun - Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas - October 1, 1931]
