CHERRYVILLE - Olivia "Lib" Carpenter, 85, of 504 N. Elm Street, passed away Oct. 2, 2011, at her residence.

Lib was born in Gaston County, the youngest daughter of the late Monroe Carpenter and Jenny Bell London Carpenter.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cherryville where she was a youth Sunday School teacher for many years during which time she was affectionately known as "Miss Libby." Lib worked as a secretary for Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation and retired from Dora Yarn Mill in Cherryville.

Survivors include a daughter Robin Carpenter and her husband Gabriel Forcier of Portland, Oregon; and nieces and nephews including James R. "Dick" Mauney and wife Linda of Cherryville. Special thanks go out to Lib's beloved caregivers and to Hospice of Cleveland County.

In addition to her parents, Lib was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. She was the last of the fabulous "Carpenter Girls."

Visitation will be 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Graveside memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Fite officiating.

Burial will be in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.
