Brief biography, per my family records (my relation is via Hartwell's wife Sarah Ann LOTT, a sister to my 2nd great grandmother, Louisa Lott)...
Hartwell Coleman Fountain was a son of William Fountain and Sarah Mason-Fountain
Hartwell married Sarah Ann Lott-Cook (1821-1872) on 04 January 1848 in WOB. Sarah was the widow of James Russell Cook (1812-1843). Sarah Ann Lott 1st married James Russell Cook on 19 Dec 1837 in WOB. She had two children via her 1st marriage: John Walter Cook (1839-1916) and James Russell Cook, Jr.(1842-1934). These two boy were young when their father died. After James Russell Cook died and Sarah remarried to Hartwell Fountain in 1848, the two children of her first marriage are sometimes found using the Fountain surname versus their Cook birth name. However, I have no records that they were officially adopted.
In additon to the above two step-sons from Hartwell's first marriage, my records indicate that Hartwell and Sarah had the following children via their marriage:
1) Sarah Mason Fountain (1849-1869) who married Coleman H "Coley" LYONS on 04 Aug 1868 in Pleasanton. They had at least one child: Sarah "Sally" LYONS born ca 1869 before her mother passed away on 22 April 1869. So, it is likely Sarah Mason Fountain-Lyons (mother) died at or shortly after giving birth to their daughter in 1869. Her husband had two marriages after Sarah died and he was left a widower.
2) William Henry Fountain (1850-1929) who married Josephine A Camp on 24 Dec 1879 (both are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas). They had at least 3 known children: Two daughters: Willie Berry Fountain(1882-1927) who is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery (Lampasas, Tx); Fannie Lee Fountain (1896-1982) who is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery; and on son: Henry Coleman Fountain (1900-1964)who is also buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
3) Elizabeth Lee Fountain-Brown (1853-1917) who married William Webster Brown. She died of T.B. in Lampasas 01 April, 1917 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. She had at least 11 known children. A number of their children were also buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.
4)Robert Lott Fountain (1856-1878)who died May 10, 1878 in Pleasanton, Atasocosa County, Texas. Burial location not identified.
5) George W Fountain (1856-1856) was a twin brother to Robert who died as an infant.
They had at least 5 children (the last two known born were the twins).
Hartwell Coleman Fountain was a Mexican War Veteran.
