Henry Tassett, one of the most respected citizens of Ford county died at his home in the German Settlement, Sunday morning, Aug. 12, 1900, aged 63 years. Mr. Tassett and Mr. Klenke were the first of the German Colony to come to Ford County; in fact they were sent out by the Germans to select a site for their colony. This was in 1877 and in the following year they, with others returned here, took up their homes and have universally prospered. Mr. Tassett was born in Germany and came to America in 1850. During the Civil War he was employed by this Government in the manufacture of wagons. He has been engaged in farming and stock-raising since he came to Kansas and since the establishing of a post-office at Windthorst, he has been postmaster. Deceased leaves a wife and four children and many friends to mourn their loss.
