Obituary:

Funeral for David R. Hankins, 83, 505 Stoeckly, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, the Rev. Charles Ayers, Leoti, officiating. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery. He died Sept. 2, 1987, at St. Catherine's Hospital. Born Sept. 25, 1903 in Welch, Okla., he married Naomi Cecile Vandolah, Jan. 16, 1926 at Kingman. Mr. Hankins was a farmer, retiring in 1969. He had been a resident of Garden City since January 1986, moving from Holcomb where he had lived since the fall of 1929. Survivors include his wife, of the home; five daughters Peggy Flynn, Marjorie Smith, Maxine Potts Shirley Talbert, and Sue Near, all of Garden City; two sons, Joe, Holcomb, and Gene, Katy, Texas; three sisters, Sylvia Watson, Jacksonville, Fla., and Nellie Wilkins and Gladys Curnutte, both of Vinita, Okla.; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and one great-granddaughter. Friends may call until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Memorials to the Alzheimers Disease Association, Inc. in care of the funeral home.
