ALBANY, N.Y. -- Bernadette (Nolin) Liebel, 92, of Albany, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at St. Peters Hospice Inn after a brief illness. She was the widow of Bill Kenna and Albert Liebel.
Born in Fairhaven, Mass., June 17, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Clara Rock Nolin.
Mrs. Liebel started her business career by working at her father's A&P store at age 12.
She married her first husband, Bill Kenna, during World War II in Ketchikan, Alaska, and started her banking career selling bonds to the servicemen there. After her husband's death, she returned to banking in Guilderland, N.Y., where she met and married her second husband, Albert Liebel.
After 24 years in banking, she rose to become manager and vice president of Mechanics Exchange Savings Bank at Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany. She retired from banking in 1965.
She was a gourmet cook, an avid reader, a supporter of the performing and fine arts, and she loved gardening.
In 1999, on her 90th birthday, she returned to Alaska and visited the bank that launched her career.
She attended Christ the King Church in Guilderland. Earlier this year, she was recognized as its oldest member during a dedication service for the new church.
Survivors include a brother, Wilfred Nolin of Acushnet, Mass.; a brother-in-law, Joe Smusz of Lakeville, Mass.; a niece and companion of 10 years, Brenda Smusz; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Alice Knudsen, Rita Borowicz, Louise Smusz, John Nolin, Norbet Nolin and Rene Nolin.
Arrangements are by the New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
